How we treat

Difficulty Chewing

You may notice that your child struggles with chewing their food. This can be a great concern as that increases the risk for choking. Children who suffer from difficulty of chewing will often swallow food whole which is dangerous and not recommended.

  • Evaluation of food options
  • Changing food textures
  • Reducing child nibbling
  • Prevent overstuffing of food
How we treat

Difficulty Swallowing

Many of the times if your child is having difficulty swallowing it can be due to certain factors. Firstly, it may be because of a sore throat which causes the child pain. Secondly, if the child has nasal congestion that may cause discomfort. Other issues may range from suffering from a medical condition such as cerebral palsy. Below are examples of difficulty of swallowing:

  • Difficulty swallowing any food
  • Trouble swallowing saliva
  • Insect bite causing swelling
  • Potential fever
How we treat

Refusal to eat

Many foods as we all know have different smells and textures. Each child has their own preference when it comes to eating food which is why its important to note what your child enjoys. You may notice your child has difficulty changing from: bottle food to purees. Then, from purees to soft solids. Lastly, to mixed textured foods. Your child may require feeding therapy if:

  • Child refuses to eat
  • Child is irritable when eating
  • Child gags or coughs when eating
  • Child refuses to accept new transitions of texture.
